Where did the weekend go?!

I cannot believe it’s already Monday!  I feel like it should just now be Friday.  Not that I’m complaining about Monday already being here, because this is the last full week of school. 🙂

This weekend was kind of a blur due to lack of sleep and odd hours of work.  Let’s just take it one piece at a time.

Friday

Friday night Daniel went on a motorcycle ride with one of our friends that recently got a bike.  My dad was in town, so I headed over to my parents house to hang out for a couple of hours.  I knew I had an early morning, so I made myself go to bed before eleven.

Saturday

Boy, this day started EARLY.  My alarm clock went off at 3:30 a.m., and I hit the snooze a couple times before finally rolling out of bed to get ready.  I was doing a Zumba class at the fairgrounds for Relay for Life.  The class started at 5, and when I pulled into the parking lot at 4:30, it started to rain.  Did I mention the class was outside??? Luckily, there was a HUGE stage that I got to dance on, and my loyal zumba ladies (seriously, they are so amazing to get up that early on a Saturday to come support me/get a free workout  – I love them!) had enough room to stand under a small awning.  Not that many people participated, although I have no idea why.  I mean, who doesn’t want to shake your booty at 5 a.m. in the rain after walking all night long????  Even though only a small handful danced along, we did draw a little group of spectators.

Daniel had to go into work on Saturday morning, so I drove home around 6:15 to see him before he left.  I had plans of being productive before going to teach another Zumba class at ten…..yeah.  That didn’t happen.  After Daniel left, I sat down in the chair to check some emails, and it was all over.  I dozed on and off until around 8, and then checked emails and caught up on blogs until 9 when I had to get ready to leave.  The second class was fun, and my energy was back after the first song.  That afternoon, Daniel and I both lounged around and took naps, and then the real fun happened.  We cleaned out the guest bedroom and took down a bedroom suit that my cousin was coming to pick up.  I’m telling you, we are some crazy people over here!  We did end up getting out for dinner at a local Mexican place.  Oh, when my cousin came over, she brought her adorable Morkie puppy, Maple, who is only nine weeks old.  Check out how cute she is!!!!!!!

Sunday

MOTHERS DAY!  My parents joined us at church, and then we took my mom out for sushi (and some presents, of course).  The sushi was amazing, and I definitely ate too much.  This was followed by the typical Sunday routine, groceries, food prep, some laziness, etc.  I went back over to my parents to spend more time with them before my dad leaves town for work again, and my mom had made this beautiful strawberry pie.

Don’t worry, that wasn’t my slice.  Mine was about 9/10 the size of this slice haha.

Simple Dinner & Keeping Promises

Random title, I know.  I promise they somehow relate to each other (at least in my mind).

First things first, the Chobani giveaway ends tonight (Thursday night)t, so make sure you entered!

Today was one of those days where I kept saying over and over, “it’s okay – tomorrow is Friday – hang in there – it’s almost the weekend – then Spring Break is right around the corner.”  It wasn’t a bad day by any means (I mean, how could you possibly have a bad day when you get to teach 13 year old hormonal angelic students all about the difference in who and whom ;)), but it was just a crazy day because of our shortened class schedules, MOUNDS of paperwork, and the fact that the end of the quarter is tomorrow.

Side note:  The reason we had shortened classes this week is because we have had guest speakers all week at school.  The woman that shared her story today completely blew me away (along with everyone else).  Her name is Kristen Anderson, and she reaffirmed that it’s truly amazing what God can do through our lives, even when we try to mess them up by doing our own thing.  If you want to check out her website you can go here, and if you want to see a brief clip of her story, you can watch that here.

Back to the title of this post – the simple dinner.  I thought for a while before Zumba about what to cook tonight, but when I was driving home in the pouring rain, I still had no idea what to make.  I opted to pound out some boneless skinless chicken breasts and cook them in my Le Creuset French oven with a little olive oil, seasoned salt, and freshly ground black pepper.  While they chicken was cooking away, a cut up some zucchini spears and roasted them in the oven.  I told you it was a simple dinner. 🙂

If you didn’t realize, I’m keeping my promise that I made last night of posting current pictures.

After dinner, that sweet tooth kicked in again, and I finally succumbed to the chocolate cravings.  I indulged in a diet hot chocolate mix made with unsweetened almond coconut milk.  It was completely delicious and totally satisfied the monster chocolate craving I had.

Definitely a good way to end the day!

Prescription Exercise

Thank you so much to all of you who entered the Chobani giveaway!  It doesn’t close until Thursday night, so if you haven’t entered yet, you still have time!

It’s Tuesday night at 9:15, and I’m just now getting home and starting dinner.  It’s one of those crazy weeks.  My regular schedule, but then Daniel has a FD class four nights this week until 9 or 10, so it’s making for some late dinners.  Luckily, tomorrow night is his night off from the class, and I get home before 7 on Wednesdays, so we can actually eat before midnight AND spend some time together!  Since we’ve been eating so late (which is really not that much later than usual – maybe 20 minutes? It seems much later…), our meals have been even more unusual than they usually are.  Last night, Daniel reheated leftovers while I made two eggs and topped them with goat’s milk cream cheese and fig butter.  Don’t knock it til you try it!  Tonight, I decided to toast up some ciabatta bread that needed to be used with some Brummel & Brown yogurt spread and garlic.  We are sauteing some squash and zucchini to go along with it, and we have some smoked chicken in the fridge (Daniel smoked a big batch of chicken breasts for me on Sunday for my lunches this week).  Whatever works!

Tomorrow night will be much better – it’s fish taco night!  Get excited!

On a totally different note, I have had the worst cold this week!  I rarely get sick (maybe a stomach bug or the sniffles once a year), but for some reason this year I have had this persistent cold that I cannot get rid of.  It’s highly annoying.  Instead of going to a real doctor, I decided to prescribe myself lots of fresh fruits and veggies, sleep (which I haven’t gotten), and EXERCISE!  Before teaching my first class tonight, I had this pounding sinus headache, I couldn’t breathe through my nose at all, and I basically want to curl up in a ball instead of shaking my booty to hip hop music (this is the sign that something is wrong).  My sweet friends that take my class were asking if I should teach or if I needed to go home and rest, but I assured them that once I got a little sweat goin’ that everything would be fine.  Within the first three songs I felt like a new person!  I don’t know what it is about exercise, but it always makes me feel better!  Obviously, if you have more severe symptoms than just a little cold (for me anything shoulders and below or a fever), then you should see a real doctor. 🙂

Thank you for all the encouragement and understanding words about the never ending battle all women seem to face.  I’m glad that I’m not alone, and I was inspired by the brief glimpses into your lives.  Y’all rock. 🙂

I feel like I need to catch you up on my life since I haven’t told you all the details since last week.  I know you’ve just been dying to hear all about it!

Friday – I felt like I was getting sick (cold/sinus infection) all day, but I refused to let that hold me back from having a great weekend.  I convinced D that I needed sushi to feel better (it sure didn’t take long to convince him), and we went out to our favorite restaurant around 8:30.  After sharing a couple of rolls (Godzilla and Phoenix), we went to hear a local band that was playing.  It was fun to have a night “out.”

Saturday – I was on the schedule to teach Zumba, but my head felt like a bowling ball.  I texted a girl to sub for me, then sent another text immediately after telling her to ignore my craziness and that I would teach because I know that sweating always makes me feel better!!!  It definitely did the trick!  While I was dancing for money teaching Zumba, my sweet husband went to the farmers market and bought some fresh seafood.  SHRIMP from the gulf coast – it is delicious!

The rest of Saturday was spent snuggled up in the chair, feeling the warmth of the fire in the fireplace, watching random movies/tv, reading blogs, napping, and snacking.  At one point my head was really hurting again, and Daniel went and got me a cup of ice cream (one scoop cookie dough, one scoop snickers).  Sometimes ice cream really can make everything better.

Sunday was church, small group, firefighting (okay, that was just Daniel, not me), cooking, then Super Bowl time!  We went to Daniel’s brother’s house and were entertained by three of our beautiful nieces.  They are so funny!  I wish I had taken my camera, but it honestly never crossed my mind (I definitely lose blogger points for that).  We came home around halftime and got everything ready for today and went to bed earlier than normal. 

Now onto the actual title of this post…yesterday at small group we started talking about funny videos on youtube.  I can’t let myself watch too many of these videos because I will accidentally waste a full hour in the blink of an eye.  Have you seen this video???  It is so incredibly funny to me!

Marvelous Monday

A good number of my friends suffer from the Monday blues.  I try to always be extremely positive about Mondays, but sometimes those Monday blues creep in.

Typically during the week, I have zero trouble falling asleep.  I typically fall asleep mid-sentence telling Daniel how “I don’t feel sleepy at all and I just…zzzzzz…”  He gets a kick out of how easily and quickly I can be out of it.

Sunday nights are a totally different story.  Since Sunday is my rest day, I’m rarely tired when it comes time for me to hit the hay.  Even though I know I have to be up incredibly early the next morning, I just can’t get to sleep as easily.  Last night, I fell into a restless tossing and turning fit sometime before midnight.  I woke up sometime around 1:15 a.m. and lay there, and lay there, and lay there some more.  At 2 I decided I would read, which usually makes me sleepy at night.  Not last night.  Knowing that my alarm was going off in less than two hours, I forced my eyes shut at 3:30.  Needless to say, when I woke up I didn’t feel rested at all, and the last thing I wanted to do was crawl out from my warm cozy bed to the cold hardwood floor and get ready to workout. 

BUT we all know how much better a workout makes things, so I got up and got ready for Martha to join me for our Monday training session.  It started out a little slow since I was having trouble making my limbs function properly, but we ended up sweating and getting in a good resistance workout.

After hanging out with my awesome students all day, I felt like I hit a wall around 3:30.  I had to teach cardio dance at 4:30, so I opted to walk for a bit to get my blood flowing and slightly elevate my heart rate.  I may have also had a small piece of dark chocolate, which always helps! 😉

Both my cardio dance and abs classes were full tonight, so my energy levels were definitely up!  After class, I had about 1.5-2 hours to kill before Zumba at another gym…let’s just Marshall’s was involved and I have an adorable new jacket to wear tomorrow.  I also went by The Vitamin Shoppe and picked up some stuff I’ve been out of for awhile.  My amazing Zumba friends packed the house tonight and we had a sweaty, fun, and energizing workout! 

I can tell it’s not the weekend anymore since my eyelids are getting extremely heavy as I write this!  Some people use calendars and watches to keep up with the date and time…I use the weight of my eyelids.  🙂

Enough words, it’s time for bed!  I’m leading faculty devotions in the morning, so say a prayer for me, okay?  Thanks!

The week the workouts killed me…

Okay, so this past week was my first week with my new workout schedule. Let me give you an idea of what my workouts look like throughout the week:

Monday – train PT client, cardio dance, abs, zumba

Tuesday – bodyrock, zumba, SHRED (mixes hip hop dance, weights, and core – it’s my favorite class to teach!)

Wednesday – train PT client, zumba, bodyrock

Thursday – bodyrock, zumba

Friday – train PT client, zumba, bodyrock

Saturday – bodyrock

Sunday – REST

Throw in a full time job, cheer practices, cooking, spending time with Daniel, and attempting to rest, and you get one tired Natalie. Hopefully my body will adjust to my new schedule SOON!!! On two different nights this past week, I went to bed at 9:30, and I’m pretty sure I was asleep before my head ever hit the pillow.

Even though this week was quite exhausting, it was amazing! The three new zumba classes that I added in are at a new fitness studio that just opened up. Usually, the first week of classes at a new place may have about 5 or 6 people, but every class I taught had around 15! Those ladies were so much fun this week! I love seeing people enjoying a good sweaty workout. I am extremely excited about the potential that this new studio holds. You can check out the website here.

As part of my New Year resolution, I decided to take the 30 day bodyrock challenge. I started a day late so that my rest days would be Sunday & Monday, and today I am finishing up my second week! Only two more weeks to go! I LOVE bodyrock workouts – they are super challenging, quick, and effective. I have been sore several days this week from the various workouts – especially Sean’s lower body workout! I want Lisa Marie’s abs…

I have exciting news! My brother-in-law, Brian, has been in Kenya on medical missions for the past SEVEN WEEKS, and he came home last night! We are having a family dinner tonight, and I cannot wait to see him and hear about his trip! It will also be great to see everyone else since we skipped Christmas.

Birthday Week Recap

It’s October, and that means my birthday month celebration is officially over.  But now that October is here, I can start celebrating our anniversary!  There is ALWAYS a reason to celebrate!

Last weekend, we had a little bonfire shindig for my bday and my cousin’s bday.  The weather was perfectly crisp and, as always, we had a blast.

My sweet cousin Annie put all the food into picnic baskets – she is so creative.

Aren’t the “cakes” adorable?  My mom made these rice krispie treat cakes for us, and we ate pretty much ALL of them.  They were addictive.

At work on Monday, my students sang to me and my cheerleaders sang to me in Spanish (I’m not sure why they sang in Spanish, but it was fun!).  My sweet coworkers surprised me with an amazing Edible Arrangement package of chocolate covered apples and strawberries.  They said they knew to get me something healthy, but wanted me to “have a little fun” so they put chocolate on it hahaha.  They are such a blessing in my life!

Monday night was Blacklight Zumba, which is SO MUCH FUN, but made for a late night.  Quite a crowd comes out for blacklight, and we always have a super sweaty and fun workout dance party.

The rest of the week was filled with work, Zumba, practice, working out (including my first bodyrock workout! loved it!), and spending time with Daniel.  We went to a wedding for our friends last night, and it was a beautiful ceremony and reception. 

*BONUS – I went looking for a new dress to wear to the wedding, and I found this little number on sale at Marshall’s for under TWENTY bucks!  SWEET!*

Today was church, lunch, grocery shopping, food prep, and of course, football!  I’m hoping that frozen yogurt is in the works for tonight too.
