Sunshine Blog Award

Hey y’all!  I hope that you are having a wonderful week!  We’ve been getting some MUCH NEEDED rain this week, which ruined my plans of lounging by this pool:

I’m still very thankful for the rain.  We went 21 days without a single drop of rain at our house, and our garden definitely needed it.

My sweet friend Lindsay was so kind and nominated me for the Sunshine Blog Award.  Thanks so much, Lindsay, for being an inspiration to me and everyone else.  You’re the best!

This prize is awarded to “bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere”As an award winner, there are a few rules to follow:

  • Thank the person who gave this award and write a post about it.
  • Answer the questions below.
  • Pass on the award to other fabulous bloggers, link their blogs, and let them know you awarded them.

Here we go!
  1. Favorite color? blue!!!
  2. Favorite animal? dogs, but I love all animals, especially baby ones!
  3. Favorite number? I don’t really have one. I usually pick 9 because it was Daniel’s number in soccer back in the day
  4. Favorite color? Ummmm…again?  I’ll say that my favorite color to wear is black.
  5. Favorite drink? Lately I’ve been drinking tons of water infused with fresh cucumbers from the garden – so refreshing!
  6. Facebook or twitter? I’m copying Lindsay’s answer and saying that I prefer pinterest and instagram for sure
  7. What is your passion? I have many passions – health (food and fitness), travel, my faith, reading, Daniel, my friends and family, having fun, teaching, missions, etc!
  8. Giving or getting presents? Like most other people, I do enjoy receiving presents, but there is nothing better than getting someone something that he/she really wants and probably wouldn’t buy on his/her own
  9. Favorite day of the week? During the summer it’s Wednesdays because I only have one thing planned on that day and it’s over by 8:30 a.m. but during the school year it’s definitely Saturday!
  10. Favorite flower? I love calla lilies, especially the mini ones.  I had them in my bouquet at our wedding

it’s the little things in life…

It’s Frriiiiiidayy!  I hope y’all have had a great week!  Today is my last full day on the beach, and then we’ll be headed back to TN tomorrow.  I’ll miss the beach for SURE, but I am looking forward to seeing my babies  and catching up on all of your lovely blogs!

Last week, I saw a cool idea on Janetha’s blog and decided to be a copycat.  I promise, it’s not really another survey where you learn all sorts of disturbing/weird/things-that-make-you-roll-your-eyes things about me.  It’s a different type of questionnaire, and it’s 26 little things that I’m thankful for in life.

a – animals – I love my animals so very much, and pretty much all other ones too.  Especially baby animals. 🙂

b – blog friends – seriously – my life has been changed for the better because of all my best blog friends!

c – cottage cheese in my smoothies – packs a protein punch and makes it super creamy

d – dslr camera – LOVE IT

e – exercise – makes everything better and keeps me healthy!

f – friends – both the show and my actual friends

g – garden – I love being able to walk outside and get all the vegetables that I need (and that anyone else needs)

h – hot yoga – I’ve been going consistently for the past three weeks and I can see and feel a difference – anyone up for a headstand contest?

i – ice cream – pure deliciousness and can make even the worst day better

j – juicer – I seriously cannot get enough of fresh juice!

k – keurig – especially during the winter when I need that hot coffee on the way to school

l – love – God’s love, Daniel’s love, family’s love, friend’s love, puppies’ love, cat’s indifference love

m – macy the murano – it’s a great suv and I’m grateful that I have a dependable car

n – nineties station on pandora- I can’t get enough

o – obstacles – not always thankful for these in the present, but I can usually look back and see how they made me stronger

p – people – I cannot imagine my life without my family and friends – I also hope that I can show God’s love to other people

q – quick typing skills (I misspelled quick as I typed that – gotta love irony) – these come from high school keyboarding and three years typing away at a law firm

r – running – I am trying my best to become a runner and I am slowly starting to enjoy it

s – sunrises and sunsets – always a reminder of God’s beautiful creation

t – travel – I am incredibly thankful that we have the opportunity to travel every now and then (it would be every weekend if it was up to me!)

u – ugly ducking – a good story as a kid with lasting life lessons

v – victoria’s secret semi annual sale

w – wondering – I love dreaming big!

x – xray vision – out of all my super powers, it’s definitely one of my favorites 😉

y – YOU – thank you so much for coming to my little blog and blessing me with your thoughts and encouragement!  You have no idea how much I love and appreciate y’all!

z – zumba! I love teaching zumba and hiphop, and it has connected me with many awesome people!

much love,

natalie

so tell me…

What are some things that YOU are thankful for?  Pick three random letters and answer in the comments!

ABC easy as 123

When Andrea posted this survey, I couldn’t help but join in the fun!  As we all know, my 12 year old self would insist that I do this survey (and forward it from my aol account to 7 other people before midnight so all my dreams would come true).

Note – if you have a problem with hunting, you may want to stop reading now and come back tomorrow. 🙂

A is for age: 27, which I found out today from a high schooler is an “old” age – psh

B is for breakfast today: I was planning on having smoked salmon, but was rushed so I threw together a quick pb&j (first one in over a year, I think) with wild squirrel pretzel pizzazz pb and homemade strawberry jam

C is for currently craving: Ice cream!!!

D is for dinner tonight: Daniel ate a late lunch and I wasn’t terribly hungry, so he’s been snacking on random foods and I made a cookie dough cereal bowl

E is for favorite type of exercise: HIIT training, tabata intervals, HIP HOP DANCE!!!, zumba, etc.  I really like to do whatever gives me the most bang for my buck!

F is for an irrational fear: It’s not really irrational, but when I’m teaching zumba, I’m always a little concerned that I’m going to dance/fall off the back of the stage in front of everyone.  Another thing I cannot stand (although I’m not scared of it, I just hate it) is squishy toilet seats.  GAG.

G is for gross food: Chitterlings.

I tried them once, so I can say that I actually do not like them.  I believe the ones I had were fried.  DISGUSTING.  I will try anything once!

H is for hometown: Three Way, Tennessee

I is for something important: LOVE – Love Jesus, Love Others – simple yet so important

J is for current favorite jam: This morning I had homemade strawberry jam, and it was delicious.

K is for kids: 1 brown dog, 1 spotty puppy, and 1 fat cat

L is for current location: Three Way, TN for now

M is for the most recent way you spent money: I bought a ticket to our school play, which we are going to see tomorrow night.

N is for something you need: Some new workout clothes – for real!

O is for occupation: middle school language arts teacher, varsity cheerleading coach, fitness instructor (zumba, hip hop, abs, etc), personal trainer

P is for pet peeve: SMACKING or any mouth noise in general.  Loud breathing even bugs me lol.  My other pet peeve is people who have nothing better to do than criticize/talk about others.

Q is for a quote: My current favorite is “Don’t sacrifice what you want in the long run for what you want right now.”

R is for random fact about you: I can do ten consecutive back flips under water without taking a breath.  It makes me insanely dizzy and I always feel like I’m drowning when I come up for air, yet I still do it every time I swim with my nieces and nephews.

S is for favorite healthy snack: fresh fruit or a protein smoothie.  today’s snack was a fake baked (microwaved) apple with cinnamon and coconut butter

T is for favorite treat: ice cream – preferably with some type of chocolate and caramel

U is for something that makes you unique: I hunt and can track and clean my own deer. Don’t worry, we eat the meat!

I can also say my alphabet backwards.  Talent, people, talent.

V is for favorite vegetable: I don’t know that I can choose just one – I love vegetables!  Sweet potatoes, asparagus, broccoli, squash, zucchini, mushrooms, I’ll stop now.

W is for today’s workout: I taught an hour Zumba class today, but that was it!

X is for X-rays you’ve had: Other than my teeth, I’ve had my wrist x-rayed when I broke it in 3rd grade, and my head x-rayed when I got kicked by horse in 5th grade (another story, but no, I was NOT standing behind a horse).

Y is for yesterday’s highlight: spaghetti squash and getting to spend some time with Daniel!

Z is for your time zone: Central!

There you go – way more than you ever wanted to know (again).  I’m going to try to get everything ready for tomorrow and hopefully will get to bed early (this part probably won’t happen) because I have detention duty at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow!

So tell me…

Pick a letter and answer for yourself in the comments!

What should I have the detention kids do in the morning?  I was thinking wash my car, ha.

Here We Go Again!

I know I just did a survey…but when my sweet blogger friend Kristen tagged me, I couldn’t resist!

The rules:

#1 You must post these rules.
#2 Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
#3 Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.

11 Things About Me

1. I’m short.  Really really short.  Like, my license says I’m five feet tall and we’ll just go with that, short. SmileI’m about the size of a twelve year old.  Actually, most of my 7th grade girls are taller than me.  It’s okay; that’s what high heels are for!

hooker shoes

(those are the ones I got for the white trash party)

2. I do weird things in pictures (I guess I can say I ruin pictures).  I don’t do this very often, but when I do, it’s anything but subtle.

Random 595

(yep – my hair used to be really short!)

3. I love being outdoors.  Camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, whatever it is – sign me up!  It’s funny because I am always wearing high heels and the such, but on Saturday mornings of Christmas break you’ll find me in the woods at 5:30 a.m. with my rifle.  Don’t worry, we eat all the deer meat.  No killing just for fun.

4. I roof houses.  Not for a full time job or anything, but I have roofed several houses in the past.  It started as part of a missions trip (World Changers), and I had been around construction all my life so it was fairly simple to pick up.  On later mission trips, I was assigned to be “crew chief” (aka the person in charge of fixing whatever problems the house had and organizing the people working on it) on a roofing project.

5. I hate scary movies.  If Daniel wants to watch one, I have to make jokes the entire movie (which I think are hilarious, but he doesn’t always agree) and then I’m scared all night long.  I will do things like run down the hallway and leap onto the bed so nothing gets me.  I know; I’m five.

6. I’m extremely sarcastic.  I try to keep it under control, but sometimes it sneaks out when it shouldn’t.  Luckily, seventh graders don’t really pick up on sarcasm.  Sometimes a student will say “I’m not going to be here tomorrow, will you be doing anything while I’m gone?”  to which I reply, “No, we will not be having class since you won’t be here.”  And they typically say “Oh, okay, thanks!” and go sit down.  They also believed me when I told them the reason we celebrate Labor Day is because it’s the kickoff of my birthday month.  I know, I shouldn’t, but I can’t help it.

*Just so you don’t think I’m a terrible teacher/person, I do always let those kids know what their work is, and I typically reserve my sarcasm for Daniel and my adult friends. Smile

7. I love cheerleading.  I cheered in middle school, high school, and college.  I went on to coach middle school cheer for two years, and now I’ve been coaching varsity cheer for four years.  I love my cheer girls!!!

cheer

8. I love to travel.  Some places I’ve been: NYC, DC, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Ohio, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, Cancun, Virgin Gorda, Hawaii (notice the beach and tropical weather theme).  I want to go to Italy, Greece, England, Australia…pretty much everywhere!  It doesn’t matter to me if it’s a weekend trip to some place nearby or a three year traveling experience – I love exploring new places!

virgin gorda 06 147

(Virgin Gorda, 2006)

9. I love pecans.  They are so so delicious.  It greatly annoys Daniel, but I almost always pick out ALL the pecans from the container of mixed nuts.  Good thing he loves me anyway, because I probably won’t stop doing that.

10. I love to make people laugh.  Daniel, my students, my friends, my cheerleaders, my zumba classes, my parents, anybody and everybody.  I feel like one of my purposes in life is comedic relief.  I am not really one of those “cry with you” people, but if you  need a good laugh, call me!

11.  I’m a terrible singer.  I love to sing, but it’s not pretty, trust me.  I ‘d say the sound is somewhere between a drowning cat and a moose in heat.  I have no idea what either of those really sound like, and I hope you don’t either, but just use your imagination.

Kristen’s Questions:

1. What is your favorite dessert?

I don’t discriminate against desserts, I love them all!  Some sort of chocolate something and ice cream sounds perfect!

2. Who do you most admire?

My grandmother.  She and I were extremely close, and I miss her every single day.  She was born in 1915, lived through the Depression, wars, and so many changes in our nation.  She had her Masters Degree (how cool is that – I don’t think too many women had advanced degrees in the 30’s), was president of her sorority, taught special education, raised four children, etc.  I could go on forever about the wonderful memories I have with her.  She always saw the best in everyone, and she had an amazingly close relationship with Jesus.  I strive every day to be more like her.

3. Would you rather: bungee jump or sky dive?

I’m an adrenaline junky, so I would do both.  Sky diving would be my first choice.

4. If you were on death row (pleasant topic, right?), what would be your last meal?

SUSHI!  I would have ALL my favorite rolls from Sakura!

5. Dogs or cats?

I have both, but I think dogs.  I love animals!

6. What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Probably my education – I’m proud that I did my undergrad in 3 years and then went back two years later to get my masters.  I’m also proud of raising my wonderful children.  They are so well-behaved.  *please know that Daniel and I don’t have human children, only fur children*

7. Favorite guilty pleasure television show?

Does The Best Thing I Ever Ate count???  It’s guilty because all the food is crazy!

8. What is your most embarrassing moment?

Hmmm…I don’t embarrass too easily, but I’ve fallen in front of tons of people and I get tongue-tied all the time.

9. What food do you love, but you’re scared to prepare yourself?

Probably sushi – I’ve made it before, but it just seems so much easier to go to my favorite place and pick it up haha.

10. What is your biggest fear?

Losing the people I love the most – especially Daniel.  On a totally different note, I hate clowns.  Who the heck thinks clowns are fun/funny???  Creepy, I’m telling you, creepy.

11. Name the movie or TV show that makes you laugh the most!

The Big Bang Theory!!!  (Benchwarmers, Friends, Home Alone 2, and Bad Boys 2 were all in the running.)

My questions:

1. If you had to pick a theme song for your life, what would it be and why?

2. What is the best book you have ever read?

3. What is your favorite form of cardio?

4. If you are married, did you go on a honeymoon?  If so, where?  If you’re not married, where do you want to go on your honeymoon?

5. Do you have a “morning routine” when getting ready, or do you just randomly do whatever you think of first (brushing teeth, showering, hair, makeup, etc)?

6. Name your favorite fruit and your favorite vegetable.

7. If you could eat all the junk you wanted and never gain weight, would you?  Why or why not?

8. What’s your favorite candy?  If you don’t eat candy, what was your favorite kind when you were younger?

9. How did you first get into blogging?

10. What is your greatest strength?

11. Who makes you laugh the most?

I’m tagging:

Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance

Jodi @ Southern Flavored Life

Michelle @ Our Dream, Made Out Of Real Things

Megan @ Munch and Crunch

Janelle @ Running is Magical (who PR’d her half marathon this past weekend –wooohooo!!!!)

20 Question Survey

After seeing this survey appear on several of my favorite blogs, I caved!
