Busy Doesn’t Always Equal Productive

Happy Monday night, blog friends!  I hope that you had a wonderful weekend and a marvelous Monday!

My weekend was pretty busy – two birthday parties, one bachelorette party, church, a bridal shower, and time with out-of-town family.  It was a good one, but there wasn’t much relaxing around this house.

I took off work today and had a full to-do list that I wanted to tackle.

Some things that were on the list:

  • do all laundry and PUT IT AWAY

  • go to the bank

  • grocery shopping

  • call consignment shop and set up appointment

  • work on new choreo for classes

  • prep food for week

  • write out meal plan for lunches and dinners

  • plus about ten more things.

Guess how many things I marked off that list?  ONE.  (Hey, it’s better than none, right?)  I did manage to go to Kroger and buy groceries.

Before you start thinking that I lounged around in my pajamas and ate bon bons all day (I don’t get this expression – who really does that?), let me explain.  I did sleep in, which was much needed after the weekend, but then I spent a good hour playing on the computer.  Oh wait, that’s not helping my case much, is it?  Moving on, I got a call from my parents that they were headed to Green Acres farm to pick up fresh strawberries.  This place has the BEST strawberries, and during the season they sell out every single day.  In my family, fresh strawberries mean one thing – JAM.  After talking with parents, I quickly got ready and went to the grocery store then headed to their house to start making jam.  My mom made  78 jars of the “regular” recipe, and I made 28 of a healthier, low sugar recipe.  I only used half my strawberries, so it looks like I will get another 28 jars made sometime this week.  I’ll have my lower-sugar recipe for you tomorrow, along with some strawberry pictures!

After making jam, I rushed to the gym to teach cardio dance and abs, then went to another gym to teach zumba.  I kept finding bits of strawberry jam on me during classes (on my hands, my arms, in my hair…), but I just used it to refuel.  Kidding. 😉

Daniel cooked a delicious dinner of fish tacos, and I’m about to head to bed.  I’m meeting some people at the gym at 5:30 in the morning for an intense workout – I’m excited!

Even though today felt pretty busy, I wouldn’t say it was extremely productive.  Maybe one of these days I’ll actually get my laundry put away…

So tell me…
What was the best part of your Monday?

Was it a productive day for you, a busy day, or a relaxing day?

Marvelous Monday

A good number of my friends suffer from the Monday blues.  I try to always be extremely positive about Mondays, but sometimes those Monday blues creep in.

Typically during the week, I have zero trouble falling asleep.  I typically fall asleep mid-sentence telling Daniel how “I don’t feel sleepy at all and I just…zzzzzz…”  He gets a kick out of how easily and quickly I can be out of it.

Sunday nights are a totally different story.  Since Sunday is my rest day, I’m rarely tired when it comes time for me to hit the hay.  Even though I know I have to be up incredibly early the next morning, I just can’t get to sleep as easily.  Last night, I fell into a restless tossing and turning fit sometime before midnight.  I woke up sometime around 1:15 a.m. and lay there, and lay there, and lay there some more.  At 2 I decided I would read, which usually makes me sleepy at night.  Not last night.  Knowing that my alarm was going off in less than two hours, I forced my eyes shut at 3:30.  Needless to say, when I woke up I didn’t feel rested at all, and the last thing I wanted to do was crawl out from my warm cozy bed to the cold hardwood floor and get ready to workout.

BUT we all know how much better a workout makes things, so I got up and got ready for Martha to join me for our Monday training session.  It started out a little slow since I was having trouble making my limbs function properly, but we ended up sweating and getting in a good resistance workout.

After hanging out with my awesome students all day, I felt like I hit a wall around 3:30.  I had to teach cardio dance at 4:30, so I opted to walk for a bit to get my blood flowing and slightly elevate my heart rate.  I may have also had a small piece of dark chocolate, which always helps! 😉

Both my cardio dance and abs classes were full tonight, so my energy levels were definitely up!  After class, I had about 1.5-2 hours to kill before Zumba at another gym…let’s just Marshall’s was involved and I have an adorable new jacket to wear tomorrow.  I also went by The Vitamin Shoppe and picked up some stuff I’ve been out of for awhile.  My amazing Zumba friends packed the house tonight and we had a sweaty, fun, and energizing workout!

I can tell it’s not the weekend anymore since my eyelids are getting extremely heavy as I write this!  Some people use calendars and watches to keep up with the date and time…I use the weight of my eyelids.  🙂

Enough words, it’s time for bed!  I’m leading faculty devotions in the morning, so say a prayer for me, okay?  Thanks!

I hope you had a marvelous Monday and that we all have restful sleep tonight!

Do you fall to sleep easily or does it take you forever?  What do you do when you can’t sleep???
